The Wayland Board of Health is seeking individuals who are interested in joining a Medical ReserveCorps (MRC). A Medical Reserve Corps is made up of volunteers who assist in preparing for and responding to public health emergencies, e.g. when we have to dispense vaccine/antibiotics to the general population in the case of a flu pandemic or a bioterrorist event.

We are seeking the following volunteers:

1. Medical, Public, and Mental Health Professionals: doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses,pharmacists, medical technicians, counselors, social workers, psychologists, veterinarians, epidemiologists, EMT’s, etc.

2. Volunteer Coordinators: people who are interested in organizing meetings and developing andmaintaining the Medical Reserve volunteers.

3. Clerical Support: computer technologists, registrars, greeters, administrative assistants

4. Security: traffic flow, parking, etc.

5. Transportation: to help people get to our dispensing sites.

6. Child Care: for our other volunteers.

Benefits of volunteering with the Wayland Medical Reserve Corps:

1. Free training and continuing education credits, as you learn emergency management anddisaster medical operations

2. Skills development, to ensure that you will be ready to pitch in when a medical crisisoccurs

3. Delivery of medical care within your level of expertise to commensurate with yourbackground, skills, and expertise, as required by the incident

4. Networking with other health care providers, as part of a critically important andspecialized team

5. Options to participate in initiatives that enhance public health, such as vaccination andeducation programs

6. The ability to serve the emergency public health needs of family, friends, neighborsand loved ones in your own community.
